Don’t Miss Out! Applications for Utility Bill Assistance Open October 2026
OPC wants you to know about key programs that will help you save energy and money on utility bills. OPC can help you navigate the application processes for benefits.
The District Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) will open applications for the Fiscal Year 2027 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) on October 20, 2026. LIHEAP assists income-eligible District households with heating and cooling energy costs. Eligible households may receive energy bill assistance between $250 and $1,800 as a one-time regular benefit. Visit DOEE’s LIHEAP website for application and eligibility guideline information.
DOEE offers other programs for consumers at various income levels. Here are a few:
Sign Up for Solar for All to Save on Electric Bills
DC residents who enroll in the Solar for All Community Solar Program can save up to $500 a year on electricity bills. Community solar does not require you to install solar panels on your roof. Participants receive solar credits directly on their Pepco bill, making this option accessible to renters, residents of multifamily buildings, and homeowners. Applicants must live in the District, pay a Pepco bill, and meet the income guidelines. Community solar applications can be completed online.
Funding Opportunity: Multifamily Electric Vehicle Charging
DOEE and Catalyst Mobility are now accepting applications for the Multifamily EV Charging Assistance Program. It offers free technical assistance and rebates covering up to 80% of project costs, including planning, equipment, installation, and maintenance for certain charging stations located near multifamily properties. Project selection is expected by December 2026.
Funding Opportunity: Diesel Reduction Incentives for Vehicle Electrification
Eligible DC fleet operators can receive up to 45% off the cost of a new zero-emission vehicle purchase, plus additional funding for certain older diesel vehicles. Funding for DC DRIVE is limited.
If you need help filing applications for any energy assistance program, call OPC at (202) 727-3071.
