We are excited to announce that a comprehensive study performed by the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) at Salisbury University, titled “Economic Impact of the Maryland Clean Energy Center,” revealed that the Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) has established itself as a vital component of the state’s economic infrastructure.

Since 2009, MCEC has transformed public funding into massive private investment. We have helped build a stronger economy, thousands of jobs, and a more sustainable future for the state.

The Impact at a Glance (2009 – 2025):

• $621.5 Million in total statewide economic output
• 3,000 Jobs supported across the state
• $82.2 Million in state and local tax revenue contributed
• 21 to 1 ROI: For every $1 the center receives, $21 is returned to the economy in Maryland

Driving Innovation through Proven Programs

By bridging the gap between public policy and private capital, MCEC has catalyzed growth through several key initiatives:

• MDPACE: Facilitated $230.2 million in output through commercial financing
• MEIA: Advanced clean energy start-ups to generate $145.4 million in output
• MCAP: Contributed $70.1 million toward essential energy capital projects

Leading the Transition

The work of MCEC has played a pivotal role in helping the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the largest amount in the nation, a 36% decline between 2005 and 2022. This study proves that environmental responsibility and economic prosperity go hand-in-hand.
