Budget Cuts ‘Getting Worse’
A second article published by the Baltimore Sun discussed how budget cuts proposed by the Maryland General Assembly and the federal funding freeze enacted by the White House could impact state institutions in Maryland, including MCEC. Check out the full story here.
Judge Blocks Funding Freeze
RTO Insider published an article examining the potential impacts of the federal funding freeze enacted by the White House. Numerous programs administered by Maryland environmental agencies, including MCEC, are at risk of being affected, including the Charging & Fueling Infrastructure, Solar For All, and Rural Development grants. MCEC Summit Date Announced!

This year’s event, themed Balancing Supply, Demand & Sustainability: Innovation in the Energy Marketplace, will occur on October 14-15 and include two days of speaking engagements, expert panels, and networking opportunities. Community Meeting: Listed, Lead, Share
MCEC will host a free in-person community engagement event in March to inform local leaders, business owners, institutions, organizations, and personal consumers about how to save on energy bills, reduce energy consumption, and get involved in clean energy practices:

Funding & Financing Clean Energy
MCEC will host a free webinar on March 13, titled Project Financing & Funding for Municipal Governments & Community Serving Organizations, to provide municipal governments and community-serving organizations with essential knowledge and strategies to effectively access and leverage funding and financing opportunities for impactful projects. Topics will include:
- Utilizing resources from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)
- Braiding multiple funding streams
- Understanding IRS Direct Pay mechanisms
- Developing projects in underserved neighborhoods

MEIA Climate Tech Founders Fund
Applications are now open for the Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator (MEIA) Climate Technology Founder’s Fund. Established through the passage of Maryland SB960 in 2024, this fund provides direct financial support to qualifying early-stage startups driving clean energy, decarbonization, and climate innovation in Maryland.
