A Note From Our CEO

  Heather ONeill

Heather O’Neill CEO & President

For years, Advanced Energy United has been at the forefront of advocating for a Western RTO (regional transmission organization). Regional cooperation through energy markets can help with energy delivery and cost while expanding the supply of advanced energy technologies on the grid. The West-Wide Governance Pathways Initiative is a key part of achieving this greater regional energy cooperation, and as a member of its Launch Committee, United has played a pivotal role in shaping this effort. Introduced by California Senators Becker and Stern and supported by United, Senate Bill (SB) 540 would enable the Pathways Initiative proposal by allowing California’s electricity grid operator to participate in an independently governed, multi-state energy market. This legislation is a critical step to finally establishing a much-needed west-wide grid operator and will help pave the way for broader regional collaboration in the West. It will lower electricity costs for the region and improve grid reliability while protecting state authority and interests. While actively working to support this bill in California, United and our partners remain committed to supporting leaders in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico to ensure the full benefits of the Pathways Initiative can be achieved—including lower costs, job creation, improved reliability and resiliency to extreme weather events, a thriving clean energy market, and fully leveraging the cost-saving benefits of sharing resources across the West.
