Greetings Ronald,Here’s what’s new at Green The Church.

GTC DMV at Souls To The Polls Event

Green The Church DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) was well represented at a recent event organized by Maryland Souls to the Polls—a collaboration of Baltimore Votes Coalition, NAACP Baltimore City Branch, Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, Empowerment for Collective Change Inc., and Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA).As an organization that believes in Building Power for Change, we applaud the work being done in the DMV area. We are honored to uplift their example of faith communities bringing our values and people to the democratic process to promote a more vibrant, safe, and sustainable future.

Indigenous Mothers Community Land Trust

Resilience Leaders Find Sovereignty in Hudson Valley, NY

Rev Dele, a Grandmother, Theologian, and Permaculture Professor, having faced 10 years of land access issues across several states, has identified a solution—land sovereignty. She has has brought together three other Indigenous mothers whose life mission is to tend to mother earth and all our relations and convened the Indigenous Mothers Community Land Trust. They are working to acquire 102 acres for spiritual, cultural, and food sovereignty within a respectful multi-faith space. After following traditional practices to heal the land, federation members envision complimentary land relationships.

Soil & Souls is a worker-owned native/medicinal plant nursery that offers community education and leadership training in resilience. Their goal is to train 300 young adults who serve faith-based resilience hubs across the country. Hawk Mountain Earth Center will guide mutual aid garden and healing retreats. Ceremony as regenerative land management and maintaining the voice of land will be the focus for the Ramapough Lenape Nation-Turtle clan of New York and New Jersey and North East Farmers of Color (NEFOC) respectively.

Here is a video introduction to the project. The down payment for the land has been raised and they are seeking to raise the remaining $500,000 using a “mycelium strategy”. They ask each person to give $11 or more and ask three other people to do the same by the end of December—in support of seeding resilience. Rev Dele writes, “We are asking those who are called by His name to join us in this act of turning away from colonial ways so that our land and people may be healed.”Tax deductible donations may be given online HERE or a check mailed to: Hawk Mountain Earth Center | 16 Barnard Place | Newark NJ.
