The Biden-Harris Administration Issues Pause on Pending LNG Exports

On Friday, January 26th, President Biden decided to pause pending approvals of liquefied natural gas exports with the exception of unanticipated and immediate national security emergencies.

This pause on new LNG approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time. The U.S. is already the number one exporter of LNG worldwide – with U.S. LNG exports expected to double by the end of this decade. At the same time, the U.S. remains unwavering in our commitment to supporting our allies around the world.

Climate Achievements of the Biden-Harris Administration:

  • Advancing the most ambitious environmental justice agenda in history, including by signing a historic Executive Order that calls on the federal government to bring clean energy and healthy environments to all and mitigate harm to those who have suffered from toxic pollution and other environmental burdens like climate change; delivering on the Justice40 initiative, which is ensuring that the benefits of President Biden’s historic investments in America – from clean energy projects to floodwater protections – reach communities that need them most; replacing lead pipes and taking action to protect communities from PFAS pollution; accelerating Superfund cleanups; tightening air quality enforcement near pollution facilities; and more
  • Canceled remaining oil and gas leases issued by the previous administration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, proposed protections for more than 13 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, and withdrew approximately 2.8 million acres of the Beaufort Sea, ensuring the entire United States Arctic Ocean is off limits to new oil and gas leasing.

Wade, and urged the crowd of more than 500 attendees to stay engaged in the fight for fundamental freedoms across America. Biden-Harris Administration Announces New Actions on the 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
On Monday, January 22nd, the Biden-Harris Administration announced New Actions on the 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Additionally, President Biden convened the White House Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access.

  • The contrast between the Biden-Harris Administration and Republican elected officials is clear. Women are being denied essential medical care needed to preserve their health and save lives:
    • 21 states have abortion bans in effect
    • 27 million women of reproductive age now live in states with abortion bans
    • Over 380 state bills restricting access to abortion care were introduced
    • Congressional Republicans have proposed three national abortion bans

  • The overturning of Roe v. Wade was just the beginning. Republican elected officials are going to even further extremes to undermine reproductive rights:
    • Determined to pass a national abortion ban to criminalize care in every state.
    • Working to prevent women from accessing FDA-approved medication abortion, even in states where abortion is legal.
    • Trying to stop women from traveling out-of-state to access care, including by threatening to prosecute their doctors and families simply for helping them get care.

  • The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring women have the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions. President Biden and Vice President Harris stand with the vast majority of Americans who believe that the right to choose is fundamental and these decisions should be made by a woman with the help of her doctor, not politicians.
  • The Administration will continue to take decisive action to protect access to reproductive health care, including abortion and contraception, like:
    • Help ensure that women receive the medical care they need in an emergency, such as a miscarriage;
    • Defend access to safe and effective medication abortion;
    • Expand access to affordable contraception; and
    • Strengthen privacy protections for patients and doctors.
