BREAKING: SUPREME COURT RULES ON TRUMP IMMUNITY CASE
BREAKING: In a move as chilling as it was predictable, the Supreme Court has ruled on the question of presidential immunity, and by a 6-3 vote along partisan lines found that a president has “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution for all “official acts” he took while in office. Exactly what constitute those “official acts” remains to be seen, as the case was remanded back to the trial court for further proceedings, effectively handing Trump the delay that he was so desperately seeking. Justice Sotomayor’s dissent speaks volumes: “Never in the history of our Republic has a President had reason to believe that he would be immune from criminal prosecution if he used the trappings of his office to violate the criminal law. Moving forward, however, all former Presidents will be cloaked in such immunity. If the occupant of that office misuses official power for personal gain, the criminal law that the rest of us must abide will not provide a backstop. With fear for our democracy, I dissent.”… [more]
