Yesterday, Republican leaders in the House of Representatives voted to cut federal funding in order to pay for a tax cut to billionaires – with your health, safety, jobs, and climate as the sacrifice.
If the unprecedented Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2025 passes through the U.S. Senate and makes it to President Trump’s desk, the corporate billionaires will have the last laugh while our families and communities are abandoned to fend for themselves. This is a catastrophic bill, and we can’t afford to stand down while billionaires and the unelected political operatives who wrote Project 2025 play with our lives.
The damage this bill would cause is difficult to overstate. It would cause thousands of communities to lose over $15 billion in funding for community improvement projects sponsored by their elected officials. It would also cut funding to a variety of critical programs and projects, including: $1.4 billion from the Army Corps of Engineers’ construction of infrastructure to reduce damage caused by extreme weather; $40 million in funding to help farmers engage in conservation practices; and $30 million from the Community Connect program, which provides internet connection to rural communities.
The bill doesn’t stop there – it also threatens to land a major billion-dollar blow to Washington D.C.’s city budget, causing cuts to schools, transportation, and first responders. This is just the beginning of the harm this bill does – and we have to tell our legislators that this bill does NOT serve our interest.
