Policy Update
Down to the Wire: Clean Energy Legislation Amended at the Deadline in Virginia
This week, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin introduced poison pill amendments designed to harm several key pieces of legislation–HB 1883 and HB 2346–and weaken the Virginian Clean Economy Act (VCEA). United’s Jim Purekal called out the Governor’s attempt to engage in partisan politics rather than addressing energy affordability and reliability challenges by signing these bills into law. United hopes that the General Assembly will reject these amendments and continue pushing for meaningful energy reforms. Read more.>

RTO Insider: ISO-NE to Reopen Queue as it Continues to Wait on Ruling from FERC
RTO Insider reports that ISO-NE will reopen its interconnection queue on April 1, after it was closed last year due to delays in FERC’s ruling on its Order 2023 compliance proposal. While the RTO had paused work on interconnection reforms, continued uncertainty has led it to revert to the existing “first-come, first-serve” process. United’s Alex Lawton urged FERC to act quickly, warning that further delays could hinder the timely integration of new energy resources and increase costs for ratepayers. Read more.>

Renew Home to Roll Out New VPP Features This Summer
United member company Renew Home will begin deploying “homes-first” virtual power plant (VPP) features that can leverage more than 3GW of shiftable load under its control. Utilities and other energy providers can use the VPP’s digital portal to notify Renew Home of price increases or grid and capacity constraints that would benefit from load shifting and see event performance results.
