Student innovation takes center stage at 2024 D.C. Clean Energy Summit

Recent Formal Case Action

FORMAL CASE NO. 1156
The D.C. Court of Appeals instructed the DCPSC to reconsider its decision on who should pay for environmental cleanup at the Benning Road power plant, a case that could impact customer rates and set a precedent for handling environmental costs in utility regulation.

GD-2022-01-E / FORMAL CASE NO. 1171
The DCPSC granted a stay on disconnections and modifications to Order No. 21985, allowing the Chesapeake Solar & Storage Association to intervene and address Pepco’s compliance with CREF meter reading regulations, while initiating a process to ensure accurate billing and fairness in renewable energy practices.

FORMAL CASE NO. 1154
The DCPSC temporarily withheld approval for 41 WGL pipeline replacement projects due to missing data. WGL must provide risk assessment scores for 34 mains projects and justify why seven service projects, which predict no leaks, are considered high-risk.

Updates and Announcements

  • The DCPSC will hold a technical conference in Formal Case 1178 on Sept. 20, 2024, to address the most effective methods, both in terms of technology and procedures, for detecting natural gas leaks in urban environments.
  • Utility commissioners from across the region gathered at the DCPSC offices on Sept. 17 for a meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC). Special thanks to ReliabilityFirst for joining and giving a presentation.
  • Have you received a letter from Washington Gas in the mail recently regarding gas line repair service plans? NBC Washington breaks down what it says and details the next steps you might want to take.
  • As the seasons change and temperatures begin to cool down, residents are encouraged to do an “energy audit” of their home to help reduce utility bills.
  • Lifeline Awareness Week, Sept. 9-13, was an important opportunity to share details on the program helps low-income consumers connect to the nation’s communications network, find jobs, access health care services, connect with family, and call for help in an emergency.
