2024 CYCLE I GRANT OPPORTUNITIES NOW OPEN

HumanitiesDC is excited to announce our upcoming 2024 grant cycles and funding opportunities! Cycle I RFPs and applications are open and include our Community Culture and Heritage, Visions, DC Oral History Collaborative and Beyond the Archive grant opportunities.

COMMUNITY CULTURE AND HERITAGE

An opportunity for DC residents and groups to capture and share the culture and narratives of their own communities through public humanities projects.

Award: $10,000

DC ORAL HISTORY COLLABORATIVE + EXTENSIONS

Funding, training and support for organizations and individuals interested in conducting oral history projects; also open to Collaborative grantees to extend their projects. Award: $8,000

BEYOND THE ARCHIVES

Funding and resources for organizations and individuals interested in using existing oral history collections to produce public humanities projects.

Award: $12,000

VISIONS PROJECTS + EVENTS

Support for non-profit organizations towards creating or sustaining innovative interpretations of humanities scholarship for the public.

Award: $25,000

HumanitiesDC is NOW looking for community grant reviewers.

Each year HumanitiesDC relies on panels of community-based external reviewers to help make our funding decisions. Reviewers receive a $250 honorarium for each cycle they complete and are eligible to apply for grant funding. If you’re interested in becoming a grant reviewer for HumanitiesDC in 2024, apply here.

Ever wondered about the stories collected by DC Oral History Collaborative members and other DC scholars? Now, through this interactive zine, you can watch, listen, and read the first-hand accounts from those of the DC Black Arts movement in the 70s, the relocation of Chinatown, and the history of the first Latin American festival on the National Mall. reflecting on DC’s Jazz culture, the relocation of Chinatown to downtown, and the gentrification and environmental injustices throughout the city.

DC Oral History Collaborative: 101+ Workshop

Interested in telling the stories of the lives of those around you? This opportunity is for you. This course, led by Anna F. Kaplan, Ph.D., will introduce Washingtonians interested in becoming oral historians to the best practices of doing oral history, to empower them with the basic tools for developing their style and approach to preserving DC’s rich past through oral history interviews.

Is now accepting films for consideration in its second edition, running June 13-16, 2024, including films from DC-based filmmakers for the DC/Frame program.

DC/DOX is dedicated to promoting documentary film as a leading art form, championing new voices and innovations in non-fiction storytelling—using film as a catalyst to engage the most compelling issues of our day.

DC/DOX is now accepting films for consideration in its second edition, running June 13-16, 2024, including films from DC-based filmmakers for the DC/Frame program. For more details and to apply, go to FilmFreeway.

The call for entries runs November 1 through March 15, 2024. Early bird submission rates run through Dec. 22. The regular deadline is Feb. 16, and the late deadline is Mar. 15.

Feature documentaries are 40 minutes in length or longer.
Short documentaries are 39 minutes in length or less.
Eligible films should have been completed by or after January 2023.
Preference is given to films that have not yet premiered in Washington, DC.
Eligible films are not yet available on nationwide streaming platforms or in theatres.
DC-based filmmakers may apply for the DC/FRAME thematic program.

As artificial intelligence continues to change every aspect of how we work, the creative fields are seeing a seismic shift in the former ways of doing business. From avatar influencers with real world modeling contracts to AI powered rappers, AI is changing how humans do business.

Latoya Peterson, cofounder and CXO at Glow Up Games, an award-winning game studio centering Black and Brown joy, joins the Culture Series as the first guest curator for the new year.
