Dcps students advocate for Green New Deal: Renewable energy and climate resilience
Good day! DC Public Schools has joined Boulder, Colorado in passing a Green New Deal for Schools resolution, written and promoted by high school students, demanding free, sustainably sourced school lunches, curricula focused on climate justice, and school infrastructure running on 100% renewable energy. In other news, legendary jazz, R&B, funk, and pop band The Blackbyrds celebrated their 50th anniversary with a live concert at the historic Howard Theatre, and Nova Payton beautifully interpreted Burt Bacharach’s music in Signature Theatre’s fourth cabaret of the 2023-2034 season.
DC Public Schools has become the second school district in the US to pass a Green New Deal for Schools resolution, following the example of Boulder, Colorado. The resolution, which was written and promoted by high school students, demands free, sustainably sourced school lunches, curricula focused on climate justice, opportunities for students to pursue green jobs, school infrastructure running on 100% renewable energy, and improved plans for dealing with climate disasters.
