National News Biden-Harris Administration Invests $28.7 Million to Strengthen Florida’s Power Grid The Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced a $28.7 million investment in Florida’s grid resilience. This funding will support the deployment of a utility-scale battery storage system (BESS) by the City of Tallahassee Electric & Gas Utility. The BESS will ensure backup power for critical community services and is expected to save municipal utility customers approximately $160,000 annually.
DOE and EPA Announce $850 Million to Reduce Methane Pollution The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $850 million for 43 projects to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. This funding supports small operators, Tribes, and other entities in deploying technologies to monitor and mitigate methane emissions. The investment, part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, will improve operational efficiencies and create jobs while reducing harmful pollution. These efforts are essential to achieving the Administration’s climate goals and advancing clean air initiatives across the country. DOE Invests $25 Million to Advance Domestic Manufacturing of Next-Generation Batteries The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $25 million investment in 11 projects aimed at advancing the materials, processes, and equipment for the domestic manufacturing of next-generation batteries. These projects will improve scalability, productivity, and cost-efficiency in battery production, supporting the electrification of the transportation sector, grid storage, and U.S. energy security. This investment builds on over $140 billion in recent battery and critical mineral supply chain investments, fostering job creation and enhancing national security. The selected projects will further drive innovation in sustainable, large-scale battery manufacturing technologies.
