Each year, the program attracts talented applicants from diverse STEM fields, representing some of the nation’s leading academic institutions and laboratories. The program has awarded 95 postdoctoral women scientists over $4 million in grants to advance their research and careers.  The L’Oréal USA FWIS Program is seeking five exceptional female scientists to advance their research and serve as role models for the next generation of girls in STEM. You could be awarded $60,000 to advance your career and research!

Human Resources Executives at the US Department of Health and Human Services are sponsoring an interactive workshop for all faculty, staff, and students applying to career and internship opportunities with the federal government. During this workshop, participants will learn about HHS’s Pathways to Public Service internship program and how to best prepare for the application process. Professional tips will be given on creating and utilizing a USA Jobs account, drafting a federal resume, and interviewing for positions on the federal level.

The primary focus of this effort is to communicate the mission of and career paths within the Department of Health and Human Services that will provide students and recent graduates with a rewarding position in public service geared toward their major.

To support this effort, HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau, in partnership with HRSA’s Office of Human Resources (OHR) and Office of Civil Rights, Diversity, and Inclusion (OCRDI), invites members of our HIV community for an engaging event that highlights how to apply for federal job opportunities and provides guidance on overcoming challenges applicants face when seeking federal employment. In the summer of 2022, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) partnered with USDA Forest Service’s Heritage Program and the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities to bring anthropology students from HBCUs into the forest and introduce them to careers in the Heritage Program. Preserve the Past, build for the Future is a webinar series produced by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, an independent federal agency, designed to introduce college students to historic preservation and related fields. In 2023, the series will consist of five webinars. Register for all or individual webinars with one convenient link! We hope you will join us in the conversation.

May 24, 2023 – 3 p.m. ET — Hallowed Ground: Preserving Historic Black Churches. This webinar discusses the effort to preserve African American history through restoration of churches that were important in the Civil Rights movement and/or poignant to African American/American history.

Blue Campaign: Virtual Human Trafficking Youth Forum

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month (HTPM), and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign will be hosting a virtual Human Trafficking Youth Forum. The virtual forum will be held on January 31, 2023, via Goto Webinar from 10:00am–4:15pm EST.

Caretakers and Adults who work with youth are invited to attend this webinar to hear from experts in the human trafficking and youth space. 2023 Conservation Internship for Broadening Access (CIBA) Internship at the Smithsonian Institution

This internship program is focused on students from communities currently underrepresented in the museum conservation field, the CIBA offers opportunities for current or recent undergraduates to learn about museum conservation. During a 10-week summer program, CIBA interns are placed with mentors in a variety of conservation labs throughout the Smithsonian. The program supports interns by offering a stipend and paid housing during the internship. A relocation travel allowance may also be included as part of the internship award.

2023 Timeline 

  • Application deadline: March 15  at 11:59PM ET
  • Applicants notified by: April 15
  • 10-week internships begin: June 6*
  • Internship ends: August 12*

This is a cohort program so these tenure dates can’t be changed. All CIBA interns must be in residence for the entire tenure and participate full-time (at least 40 hours/week).

2023 journalism scholarships worth $50,000 now open!!

Applications are open for the 2023 National Press Club scholarships — a total of $50,000 is available to aspiring journalists.

The deadline to apply, unless otherwise specified, is February 15 by 5 p.m. ET, and we would appreciate your help getting the message out to your network, social media channels, and newsletters.

The 2023 National Press Club scholarships are:

  • The Scholarship for Journalism Diversity Honoring Julie Schoo is a $5,000 scholarship awarded to a high school senior. The purpose of the scholarship is to recruit promising future journalists who will bring diversity to American journalism. The award can be renewed for up to three years at $5,000 per year.
  • The Richard G. Zimmerman Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $5,000 to support a high school senior who wishes to pursue a career in journalism.
  • The Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship, established in 2021, supports diversity within the field of broadcast journalism. The scholarship is $5,000 per year awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to a career in broadcast journalism. The award can be renewed up to three years. The award is open to any student at any stage in their career pursuing an education in broadcast journalism, with a preference for community college students.
  • The Dennis and Shirley Feldman Fellowship recognizes a student pursuing graduate studies in journalism with a one-time stipend of $5,000 to help defray tuition costs. The deadline for this fellowship is April 15, 2023.

Emerging Scholars Internship University of Georgia Residence Research Program   Application deadline – March 1  The Emerging Scholars Internship is an opportunity for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including 1890 land-grant institutions, to conduct research with College of Agriculture and Environmental Science scientists and reside on the UGA Campus in Athens, GA. This seven-week program is intended for students who have an interest in research and are planning to attend graduate school in agriculture and related sciences.    Emerging Scholar Interns receive:  

  • A monthly $1,500 stipend ($3,000 total)
  • Housing and meal plan allowance
  • Hands-on research experience with a UGA CAES scientist
  • Travel assistance stipend up to $250

Interns are expected to: 

  • Conduct supervised research on agricultural and environmental sciences
  • Prepare and present a research poster summarizing the research project
  • Participate in professional development workshops

Interested applicants must have:

  • A background or interest in agriculture and environmental sciences
  • An interest and ability to conduct and communicate scientific research
  • A strong interest in attending graduate school
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0

The Emerging Scholars Internship is open to juniors and seniors majoring in agricultural and related sciences or related major at HBCUs and 1890 land-grant institutions.

We are excited to announce that the GSA Office of Evaluation Sciences (OES) is accepting applications for the 2023 Fellowship. All fellowship positions will be remote and location flexible within the United States. Fellows will serve at least a one-year term, with availability to serve additional years preferred.

OES is a team of interdisciplinary experts that works across the federal government to help agencies build and use evidence. We partner with federal agencies to answer priority questions with rigorous evaluation methods and administrative data. We design and conduct impact evaluations of programs and evidence-based program changes. To date, OES has completed nearly 100 impact evaluations with dozens of agency partners.

Our evaluations, in collaboration with agency partners, span areas such as increasing environmental protection, supporting equitable delivery of the American Rescue Plan, improving public health outcomes, and increasing educational opportunity. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Critical Materials Institute Course, January 23-24, 2023, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO

The Critical Materials Institute leadership academy is organizing a short course on fundamentals, applications, and supply chain of rare earth elements. See Brochure Here

The course will take place in person at the Colorado School of Mines on January 23 – 24, 2023.

The objective of the course is to engage emerging and early career professionals in discussions of and solutions for clean energy technologies in the context of critical rare earth elements. This course will focus on the fundamentals and applications of rare earth permanent magnets through the wholistic lens of market and economy. The attendants of the course are students, postdocs, and researchers from academia, national labs, industries, and government organizations. The class is limited to 50 attendants. Scholarships are available to cover travel expense.
