The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) announced the SuperTruck Charge funding program, which will award $72 million for projects that enable the design, development, and demonstration of innovative electric vehicle charging infrastructure near key ports, distribution hubs, and major corridors in support of electrified medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs).
FOA NUMBER: DE-FOA-0003344
FUNDING AMOUNT: $72 million
CONCEPT PAPERS DUE DATE:
10/8/2024 at 5 p.m. ET
APPLICATIONS DUE DATE:
11/20/2024 at 5 p.m. ET
Subtopics in this FOA address the need to identify large scale replicable and high-power charging installations to serve electric MHDV fleets with tens to hundreds of vehicles, as well as develop high-capacity charging infrastructure to serve electric MHDV for long-haul use cases (more than 500 mile per day) along major corridors and rural regions where grid capacity is limited.
This funding opportunity will identify potential solutions to address gaps in electrified MHDV charging infrastructure necessary to enable greater utilization of electrified fleets and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions from trucks. This program encourages the development and inclusion of innovative wired and non-wired charging solutions. The outcomes of this program will lead to accelerated deployment of large-scale public charging infrastructure for electric MHDVs with clean energy resources and greater grid resiliency and reliability.
VTO expects to make two to three awards under SuperTruck Charge, each ranging between $24 million and $36 million.
Prior to submitting a full application for this opportunity, a mandatory concept paper is due on Oct. 8, 2024, at 5 p.m. ET.
Funding for this FOA is subject to congressional appropriations
