Ronald,
Billions of dollars in transit funding are at risk of being clawed back by Trump’s allies, and we must act now. Approved under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), $3.3 billion has been allocated for 132 projects in 41 states.
But delays in disbursement have opened the door for partisan efforts to claw this money back, leaving our communities vulnerable. These funds are already earmarked for transformative projects:
- $104 million for reconnecting Atlanta neighborhoods severed by highways.
- $48 million for rebuilding Portland’s Albina neighborhood after decades of neglect.
- $20 million to restore Birmingham’s Black Main Street after being devastated by interstate construction.
Despite being approved, much of this funding hasn’t reached local agencies because states are still navigating the lengthy application process. Already, Trump-aligned forces are exploiting this delay, working to sabotage the progress and our fight against climate change. To make matters worse, we can be sure that once the Trump administration takes over the Transportation Department, there’ll be no stopping them from getting away with it.
Secretary Pete Buttigieg has the power to stop this now. He can accelerate the disbursement process and ensure every dollar is used as intended.

Communities across the country are counting on these investments to reconnect neighborhoods divided by highways, improve access to jobs and education, and build sustainable futures.
These funds are critical to creating jobs, reducing pollution, and repairing damage from decades of poor infrastructure planning. Imagine communities like Atlanta and Portland losing projects that could change lives all because of bureaucratic red tape and partisan sabotage.
If we don’t act fast, these billions will vanish. Let’s make sure every penny goes where it belongs, rebuilding communities and creating opportunities for all Americans.
Pete Buttigieg must protect these investments before they are taken by those who care more about political games than our nation’s progress.
Together, we can make sure every dollar reaches the projects — and the people — that need them most.
