Pass Permitting Reform & Recycling Policy to Build America’s Advanced Energy realclear energy logoIn an op-ed this week in RealClearEnergy, United’s Managing Director Harry Godfrey writes about the nation’s shift from an economy dependent on fossil fuel commodities to one based on advanced energy technologies that can strengthen our energy independence and reduce costs. To get there, writes Harry, a secure mineral supply chain must be established. IRS guidance clarifies ‘Energy Community’ definition for IRA tax credit eligibility

The Internal Revenue Service issued guidance explaining which projects can qualify for the energy community bonus credit included in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Energy communities under the IRA include brownfield sites, coal communities and areas with a specific mix of employment and local tax revenue related to fossil fuels. Managing Director Harry Godfrey said United found it “particularly encouraging” for offshore wind projects to have access to the tax bonus through interconnection facilities. “We are hopeful this will both spur more OSW development and ensure the benefits of that build-out, and the associated transmission, flow to communities in transition,” Godfrey added. Continue reading the article on Utility Dive here.>

Ford Confirms Its Electric Vehicle Lineup is Eligible for Inflation Reduction Act Consumer Incentives

Ford Motor Company announced that all three of its electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will be eligible for the Inflation Reduction Act federal tax credits in 2023, with the eligibility amount being determined by the Ford F-150 Lightning, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford E-Transit, Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring. For deliveries of a Ford EV before April 18, business clients are eligible for up to $7,500. Additionally, 18,000 new direct EV-related jobs have been announced by Ford and its battery technology partners in the US, supporting more than 100,000 indirect jobs. Continue reading the press release here.>

Pattern Energy Announces $20.5 Billion in Anticipated Economic Impact from SunZia Transmission and Wind Projects

Pattern Energy announced its SunZia Transmission and Wind projects are expected to generate $20.5 billion dollars in total economic benefit. Pattern’s two projects make up the largest renewable energy infrastructure in U.S. history. The SunZia projects will open up access to more than 3,500 MW of New Mexico wind energy, bringing affordable, safe, and clean electricity to Western states. Continue reading the press release here.>

Apple and global suppliers expand renewable energy to 13.7 gigawatts

This week Apple announced that its manufacturing partners now support over 13 gigawatts of renewable energy around the world, up nearly 30 percent since last year. Apples estimates it has cut 17.4 million metric tons of carbon emissions since 2016. Many of Apple’s U.S.-based manufacturers are taking part in its Supplier Clean Energy Program, which empowers companies to improve the supply chain either directly through clean energy use or through power purchase aggements for solar and wind projects across the country. Continue reading the article here.>
