CSOs Demand Five-Year Extension of AGOA Benefits and Support for $5 Billion Special Purpose Investment Fund

On November, 2022 Washington, DC, USA

The AGOA Civil Society Organization(CSO) Network Secretariat and The Foundation for Democracy in Africa (FDA) hosted its 23rd U.S.-Africa Trade and Investment Conference/Expo – AfrICANDO 2022, under the theme: Challenges and Opportunities to US Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation: Post COVID-19, October 10-13, 2022, in Miami, Florida, USA.

AfrICANDO -2022 was a hybrid event that brought civil society organizations, business, and government leaders from across Africa, the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America together, virtually and in person. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss solutions and provide input to areas critical to public and private sector stakeholders’ success on The Way Forward post the COVID-19 pandemic and Putin’s War on Ukraine on Lower Middle-Income Countries’ economic development, particularly in the following sectors:

•      Trade and Investment

•      Health Security

•      Climate Change: The Impact on Politics and the Economy

•      Food Security

•      Tourism

•      Logistics Infrastructure including the Gateway Initiatives and Pharma Hubs

During the event, delegates recommended that the Biden-Harris Administration and the 118th Congress extend AGOA Benefits for five years and provide support for a $5 Billion Special Purpose Investment Fund and tax incentives to augment U.S. companies’ investment in the targeted sectors.
