Ronald hosted a show about solar energy and its economic impact on Black America. He discussed a press conference about the PJM regulatory body’s impact on renewable energy projects, noting that 811 new projects have been slow-tracked for 7-8 years, creating bottlenecks for solar subscription companies. Ronald introduced his guests, Milton Burrow Jr. from Think Energy and Debra Lyles, to discuss solutions for faith-based organizations, 501c3 organizations, and businesses to benefit from solar opportunities.

Solar Energy Impact on Black America

Ronald welcomed Milton Burt Jr. and Debra Lyles to discuss the economic impact of solar energy on Black America. Milton shared his background in the energy space and explained Think Energy’s mission to help customers save money on electricity bills through state-sponsored community solar programs. Debra discussed her experience in the solar industry and highlighted how Think Energy’s offerings can benefit ordinary Americans, regardless of income level, by providing guaranteed state-sponsored savings on utility bills for 20 years. The conversation touched on the challenges people face with high utility bills and the potential solutions offered by Think Energy’s programs.

Community Solar Regulatory Challenges

Ronald discussed the impact of regulatory issues with the PJM interconnection group on community utility scale development across 13 states, highlighting a significant 900% rate increase that resulted in higher energy costs for consumers. He explained how data centers in the region contributed to rising energy demands and associated costs. Ronald then outlined a solution involving education of 67 million ratepayers about community solar programs, leveraging networks of 501c3 organizations including public service stations, HBCU Radio Networks, and University Station Alliance. The discussion concluded with Ronald introducing Milton Burke to share information about Think Energy’s role in promoting community solar programs, particularly benefiting low-income residents through the Biden-Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Electricity Discount Program Opportunities

Milton explained how 501c3 organizations and churches can benefit from a program that allows members to receive electricity discounts, which generates ongoing monthly revenue for the organization. He described two main opportunities: a fundraising method where members can accept state-sponsored discounts on their bills, and a Think Local program offering an additional $2,500 monthly through community cash donations. Milton emphasized that these opportunities provide real, life-changing income without customers spending additional money, and highlighted their patent technology and Autosave service as additional benefits.

Renewable Energy Project Challenges

Ronald discussed the challenges facing renewable energy projects, highlighting how slow tracking through PJM’s queue affects 811 new projects and potentially saves rate payers $3.5 billion in energy costs if 10% were implemented. Debra and Milton shared their experiences in educating communities about Think Energy’s program, noting resistance due to skepticism about free services and busy schedules. Ronald emphasized the importance of educating the 67 million utility rate payers and mentioned plans to expand the discussion to local stations and platforms.
