1. How long have you been in the PACE industry and what is your professional background, or route did you take to get here? What drew you to PACE?
I started Asset Environments in 2016 and PACE was passed in Nebraska in 2017, so part of the story is being in the right place at the right time. Early on I connected with a couple of the guys who helped pass the legislation, and we worked together to get the PACE market going locally.
2. Where does your company/organization/agency fit in the PACE market? What is your unique value?
We work hard to make PACE lenders’ and building owners’ lives easy by taking care of the technical approval process as seamlessly as possible. We work hard to be as responsive as possible to make sure PACE transactions aren’t held up by the technical approval process, and because we’ve performed studies in 24 (and counting) states, we know the rules and administrators in almost every active market.
3. What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone new to PACE?
The best place to start to understand program rules is to have a conversation with the administrators. Reach out to them directly and make sure you’re interpreting the rules correctly, find out if they have specific goals or things they want to avoid, etc.
4. What are you most excited about for the future of PACE?
I could point to many trends, but it’s great to see the state-by-state PACE map continue to fill in. We’ve been working on getting PACE legislation passed in Iowa, so hopefully that comes to fruition. It’s also exciting to see the UK, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and others start to look at PACE or similar programs.
5. What book would you recommend for 2024 reading?
I’m in the middle of “Atomic Habits”, it’s a good book for January habit- and goal-setting.
6. Favorite thing to watch (on TV, streaming)?
I’ve got four girls at home so I don’t get much TV time in… Jill and I did finish the House of the Dragon series and are watching The Chosen. Both excellent.
7. Which PACE industry colleague would you like to give a shout out to in acknowledgement for their work?
We work with many, many great lenders so it’s too tough to pick just one.
